James Riggall Fine Joinery Limited is a small, family-run company, that recognises the importance of each individual project.
James’ 11 years working as a bench joiner, and our personal experiences renovating houses, mean that we understand the upheaval of having work done in your home. It is our goal to make the process as peaceful as possible, from keeping the radio down to cleaning up each evening. Our woodcutting power tools even connect to portable extractors, keeping dust to a minimum.
With hard work and perseverance, we have grown and expanded our business. We have a polite, trustworthy team who share our passionate belief in our products, in the details of every job, and in providing the highest levels of customer service.
Our new joinery workshop is on the beautiful Bishops Court Gardens Estate in Clyst St Mary, a suburb of Exeter. By prior arrangement, we always welcome our customers to visit us and discuss a project or to view the manufacturing process. We look forward to meeting you.
James Riggall, Managing Director
James studied to NVQ level 3 standard in Bench Joinery and he left college with the highly acclaimed Trainee of the Year award, which is recognised by the Federation of National Builders. His love of joinery and all things wooden comes from spending time with his grandfather, whose own father was a master cabinet-maker. James spent hours listening to stories about his great-grandfather while they cleaned and oiled the tools he had once used. These tools now live at the James Riggall Fine Joinery workshop in the original toolbox made by Jamess’ great-grandfather, and James still uses them to this day.
James is passionate, enthusiastic and incredibly knowledgeable about joinery. He has a great eye for detail and design, which is noticeable in everything that he produces.
Kate Riggall, Sales and Marketing Director
Kate brings a great energy to the office. She is passionate about the company and prides herself in providing outstanding customer service. Until recently Kate has stayed on the side lines of the business, but she has regularly stepped up to the mark when needed. From making endless cups of tea to general labouring or completing the final clean on site, she has always been by James?s side.
With a real love of all things beautiful, Kate truly appreciates James’s work and has been lucky enough to experience at first hand the fine craftsmanship of everything that he produces. If you have any queries, she is on hand to answer them or to point you in the right direction.
The manufacturing team
There are currently two members of our small manufacturing team who work closely alongside James. They are personable, diligent and work to the high standards that James sets. No job is too big or too small: they are always happy to make your ideas become a reality.
Anthony trained to become a bench joiner with James at Exeter College. He shares the same love of the job and is extremely meticulous.
Brandon is James’s apprentice and, although this is his first time working in a joinery workshop, he is already a valuable addition to the team.
We were extremely happy with the bespoke cupboard doors that James made for us. They are a perfect replica of the existing 1930’s door we have throughout our house. We were also impressed with the professional way James quoted, and delivered on time the doors we required. We would definitely ask him again if we needed any further carpentry done.
I have used James Riggall services for my home and my commercial buildings on 3 different jobs totalling 18 windows of various styles. Competitive price, reliable timing, excellent work and finish, pleasant and courteous manner. In short the jobs were done well to a high standard, on time, with a minimum disruption and the place was kept and left spotless. Thank you James!
James designed, manufactured and installed a set of floor to ceiling fitted wardrobes in our old house in Kilmington. The finish of the product was first class and finished with some nice details. The area was kept tidy throughout the installation and was thoroughly cleaned when finished. We’d definitely use again and recommend.
James Riggall Fine Joinery have been doing our joinery work for a number of years. They are totally reliable and produce outstanding quality joinery. Combine that with a proactive and practical attitude, they are hard to beat. We are proud to have a close association with them, and consider them to be the joinery shop of Raleigh Property.
We have a beautiful detached 1930’s period property and over the years we have given it a lot of love and attention. From our Balcony through to the Kitchen, we have never hesitated to employ James. He has always executed our projects with the utmost care and attention, working within budget and sticking to our timescales. His attention to detail is incredible and this is also true within the team he manages. They are well mannered, friendly, knowledgeable and tidy workers, always making sure the site is left as spotless as they found it! We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend James Riggall Fine Joinery to anyone.
We are delighted with the service that we have received from James Riggall Fine Joinery. We employed James to make front and back doors for our terraced house. We found James and his team to have a positive, ‘can do’ attitude. James spent time talking through the details of the job; both before the work started and after the work was complete. He provided a clear quote, was easy to contact and happy to answer any queries. The work was excellent. On time and on budget. He and his colleagues were hard working, tidy and considerate. We would use James again. Highly recommended.
Many thanks for the work undertaken which exceed expectations. I would not hesitate to recommend your services to others.
James has been helping me renovate a late Victorian (Edwardian style) conversion since 2010. He has helped with matching existing mouldings, fitting newly made (to high eco-friendly spec) replacement doors and made reclaimed doors doors fit new openings Most recently we have been working together on designing and making a new internal bathroom, which thanks to James’ imaginative and practical involvement will be light and well ventilated (despite not having a window) and full of storage despite being a very small room. I can trust James to help me keep to the high standard I’m hoping to achieve within my budget. He’s pleasant to have around the house, always cheerful, doesn’t curse and works hard. Thanks for all your help James. I hope you enjoy your work as much as I have.
The high level of quality workmanship and the appreciation that customer care and service is a vital part of the overall offer, are the key to why we continually trust James with our work. This ethos is also reflected in the team he surrounds himself with. We have no hesitation in highly recommending James.
